The dairy sector, as part of the livestock industry is very crucial to the economy of Rwanda. It provides means of livelihood to a significant proportion of its population. The dairy strategy is quite important considering the dairy sector cuts across all pillars and cross-cutting issues contained in the vision 2020. It is also important with respect to the strategic plan for the transformation of agriculture in Rwanda and the EDPRS. The strategy aims to address the challenges facing the dairy sector. These challenges include increasing cattle population, costs of production associated with producing and marketing milk, low consumer demand, and lack of policy direction to harmonize and coordinate private sector players in the sector.
