This Act make provision for the sleeping sickness area, the restricted areas and those exempted, preventive measures in place and the administrative order for the prevention of the sickness.

This regulations make provision for the registration of brand.

The act is directed at the prevention and control of bush and other fires in Botswana. The act establishes the Principal Herbage Preservation Committee and the Subordinate Herbage Preservation Committees for the purpose of executing the functions of the act. No person shall, without the permission in writing of a Herbage Preservation Committee, set fire to any vegetation on land of which he is not the owner or in lawful occupation.

An amendment to the second schedule of the Tribal Land Act of 1970.

The amendment establishes a Subordinate Land Board to be known as Mogoditshane Subordinate Land Board, with their specified area of jurisdiction.

“An Act to re-enact with substantial amendments the provisions that regulate the law relating to Mines and Minerals; to provide for the granting, renewal and termination of mineral concessions; to provide for the payment of royalties”. The act provides for the granting of various rights relative to prospecting and mining of minerals, for environmental obligations related to mining operations and other duties of persons carrying out mining operations, and control of mining operations.

The regulations relate to the enforcement of payment of service levy imposed under the relevant sections of the State Land Act. Among other stipulations, notice shall be issued on occupiers who default on loans. Occupiers are also allowed to contest notices of default.

The regulations detail the application process for registration of an agrochemical, labelling conventions, duties of licensees, promotion and advertisement guidelines, record keeping, storage, safe handling, and disposal of agrochemical wastes.

The act allows for the association of five or more individuals, all of whom must be Batswana, for the purpose of undertaking a collective agricultural venture. Applications shall be made to and considered by commissioners authorized under this act. Associations shall have constitutions with provisions for: qualifications for membership, liability of members, voting rights of members, election procedures, and quorum for meetings and deliberations, among others.

The act provides for the marking, by the method of branding, of cattle (any bull, cow or ox, or any heifer or calf which has been weaned), with a distinctive mark. It provides for the establishment of zonal branding areas for purposes of identification of cattle and prescribes offences and penalties in respect of alteration of branding stipulations cattle. Cattle in zonal branding areas shall be marked with the zonal symbol.

The order gives an outline of persons designated as authorized officers for the branding of cattle.

The order makes provisions for additional branding for cattle owned by the Botswana Meat Commission and allocated by the commission to independent graziers for grazing.

The order makes provisions for the registration of additional forms of brands.

The act vests specified land in the British South Africa Company Limited and makes provision for certain rights of the company, the President of Botswana and the Minister in respect of the vested land.

The order specifies areas that are declared to be infected with the foot and mouth disease. It also prohibits movement of cloven hoofed animals and their products into and out of the specified areas.

The act establishes a system of Chief’s permits in tribal and non-tribal areas to authorize the sale or disposal of livestock by persons, subject to the customary laws of Botswana. “No person shall purchase or otherwise acquire for the purpose of trade within Botswana, any livestock, unless he is the holder of a current licence issued under the schedules of this act; and no person shall purchase or otherwise acquire from a person subject to customary law, any livestock, unless
that person is in possession of a Chief’s permit authorizing such transaction.
