The objectives of these regional policy guidelines are to: assure a high level of protection of human life and health in the pursuit of regional policies; assure the free movement of safe and wholesome food as an essential aspect of the regional market and to contribute significantly to their social and economic interests; ensure that national food safety management requirements do not differ significantly from member state to member state to the extent of impeding free movement of food within the region; and ensure that all the institutions in the member states having mandates related to food safety management work together and collaborate with the private sector including producers, academia, research organizations and any other relevant stakeholders to ensure coordination and long-term sustainability of safety, quality and profitability of the food produced in the region.
